Class Description.

In this class, we will learn some basics of good running technique. Running should make us strong, but many, because they have poor technique, are wrecking their knees, ankles, skeleton, ligaments and tendons as they make their muscles stronger. They are “strengthening dysfunction” and creating injuries.

Everyone “knows” how to breathe. Everyone “knows” how to walk. Everyone “knows” how to use their feet. — Yet, because of some mistakes in our culture and because of shapes (and misshapes) we are put into by our furniture and chairs and shoes and conventions, most people have inefficiencies and deficiencies in their breathing, walking, running, moving, use of their feet, and more.

I know — I used to be one of them! Not that I’m now Mr. Perfect, but I have learned a lot in becoming a certified fitness trainer and in my on-going journey to know more and function better.

So, in this class:
-we will discuss and practice some best practices for (1) breathing, (2) using our feet, (3) running;
-we will discuss and practice a bit about how all of us works together when we run;
-we will learn and practice some exercises other than running that make us better runners;
-time permitting, we will talk about how to run in the outdoors on forest trails — much better for us than flat, monotonous, sterile asphalt trails and concrete roads.

And I can answer questions you might have.

We will use a combination of lecture, interactive discussion, Q&A, demonstration, and practice. Come prepared to listen, take notes (if you want), interact, and learn!

We’ll work on some ways to make running easy, natural, enjoyable, and effortless (well, kinda effortless!). I’d love to share, so we can all run faster, safer, healthier, and more efficiently. And have fun doing it.

“My daughter loves to run but has never had anyone explain the best way to do it in order to get the most out of it and avoid injury, etc. This was the perfect class for her. As soon as she was finished, she demanded I take her out for a run so she could try out some of the tips and tricks she learned. Good class!”

“My daughter was able to “teach back” lots of good running tips and clearly was very engaged throughout the class. She’s looking forward to implementing what she learned in the coming days.”

“My son, who loves running and doing track really enjoyed this class and was excited to share some of the new tips that he learned.”

“Michael has been a great tutor that I’ve known for more than 5 years; not only has he helped me in my education but also in my health and body. Not only has he taught me fitness techniques but he has also shown me how to think about how the techniques help my body and how to keep it in top shape for the long run, like keeping my back straight so that it won’t compromise my spine when I’m much older. He has helped me prepare for my Air Force physical exam, showing me ways to preserve my energy to be able to run longer. I’m sure you can learn more than a thing or two just by hearing him out. I thought exercising was hard, but really, it’s not hard at all after you get used to it. Everything he’s taught made me actually know that I can change and become the man I’ve always wanted to be.
